“For 17 years, Davey has sponsored the ITCC as a tribute to working arborists and the safety-based culture in which we support,” says Sandra Reid, vice president of corporate communications and strategic planning administration.
The 2015 ITCC, also the 39th international competition, occurred in Tampa, Florida, in March—separate from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Annual International Conference for the first time.
“At ISA, we like to view change as an opportunity for improvement,” says Jim Skiera, executive director of ISA. “We focused on expanding the 2015 ITCC activities and developing new ones that would engage attendees, increase public awareness and create an ‘ISA experience.’”
Several Davey employees volunteered for climbing events and the limb walk this year. A.D. Ali, a technical advisor for the Davey Institute, led an interactive outdoor workshop to help attendees determine plant problems in the landscape.
Many other employees also attended to simply witness and enjoy the experience with their families. From posing for photos with a giant ITCC postcard, to connecting with employees from out of town, employees well-represented the Davey green all weekend long.
Thanks to all who participated in Davey's photo station in Tampa's Rowlett Park during the event, Davey will donate $500 to Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.
