Although the International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC) has expanded through the years, Davey’s support as the event's premier sponsor contributes to the event in several capacities to this day.

“For 17 years, Davey has sponsored the ITCC as a tribute to working arborists and the safety-based culture in which we support,” says Sandra Reid, vice president of corporate communications and strategic planning administration.

The 2015 ITCC, also the 39th international competition, occurred in Tampa, Florida, in March—separate from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Annual International Conference for the first time.

“At ISA, we like to view change as an opportunity for improvement,” says Jim Skiera, executive director of ISA. “We focused on expanding the 2015 ITCC activities and developing new ones that would engage attendees, increase public awareness and create an ‘ISA experience.’”

Several Davey employees volunteered for climbing events and the limb walk this year. A.D. Ali, technical advisor for the Davey Institute, led an interactive outdoor workshop to help attendees determine plant problems in the landscape.

Many other employees also attended to simply witness and enjoy the experience with their families. From posing for photos with a giant ITCC postcard, to connecting with employees from out of town, employees well-represented the Davey green all weekend long.

Thanks to all who participated in Davey's photo station in Tampa's Rowlett Park during the event, Davey will donate $500 to Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.

  • Adopt-a-Tree Volunteers Bring Healthy Trees and Smiles to Homeowners

For the third consecutive year, Davey’s Tampa Electric account crewmembers have volunteered to plant trees at the properties of local residents through the City of Temple Terrace and Tampa Electric’s Adopt-a-Tree program. They planted more than 40 trees in record time this year! Each spring, Temple Terrace homeowners have the opportunity to welcome home a new “family member” to their landscape—a healthy new tree.

Through the City of Temple Terrace and Tampa Electric’s annual Adopt-a-Tree program, homeowners from different neighborhoods each year may apply to receive a tree—city officials determine the species. During the week of National Arbor Day, “shovel sponsors” (Davey and Tampa Electric volunteers) follow county guidelines and restrictions to properly plant each tree.

“Volunteers complete the full planting, from digging the hole, to placing the tree and watering once it’s planted,” says Johnny Page, account manager for Davey’s Tampa Electric account.
